Sifiso Nyoni is a qualified Insolvency Practitioner and is also a licensed Business Rescue Practitioner. He brings to the table a variety of skills and experience, including experience in the administration of insolvent estates, marketing, business management, corporate strategy, corporate governance, agri-business management and turnaround management.
He is also a Marketer and holds an MSc degree in Marketing and Product Management which he pursued at Cranfield University in England. He also attended a Top Management Programme at the Business School of the National University of Singapore.
Sifiso has more than twelve years of practical experience in the agricultural commodity trading industry as a managing director and often using derivatives traded by the Agricultural Markets Division of the JSE, SAFEX. Apart from having practical experience in industrial marketing, Sifiso has also previously ventured into the FMCG food marketing industry – which involved the development and retailing of branded consumer products, notably rice, through the large multinational supermarket chains. He holds a BSc degree in Agriculture and has attended a course in Agricultural Marketing in Germany, which involved doing agricultural marketing field work in Feldafing near Munich, Bavaria.
Apart from his wealth of business management experience, Sifiso is a lawyer and an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa. He had a stint with the Pretoria Society of Advocates in 2014 whilst doing pupillage. He has LLB (UNISA) and LLM (Insolvency Law) (UP) degrees under his belt. In addition, he holds the following qualifications: Certificates in Advanced Corporate Law and Securities Law (UNISA), Compliance Management (UJ), Board Governance (UJ), and Insolvency Law and Practice (UP/SARIPA) (distinction). In his LLM thesis, he examined the interplay between business rescue and liquidation – especially when business rescue proceedings are launched when liquidation proceedings are already under way. In 2021 he successfully completed the Certified Rescue Analyst Programme presented by the University of Pretoria in conjunction with the Turnaround Management Association of South Africa.
He has provided business mentorship to National Empowerment Fund (NEF)-funded companies for three years under the aegis of BNM Technology & Associates in order to help turnaround these companies, thereby assisting the NEF to recover its funds or curtail losses. He started taking part in this mentorship programme as a mentor prior to the advent of the business rescue procedure in 2011. His active participation in the programme prompted him to enroll for the Business Rescue Decision-Making course (UP) in 2013. He has also amassed a lot of experience in the Boardroom as an executive, corporate lawyer and company secretary.
Sifiso’s main interests are in insolvency law and turnaround management, business rescue and strategy, and corporate governance. He possesses membership of the Institute of Directors in South Africa, the South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA), and INSOL International. He has previously served on the Council of the then South African Advertising Research Foundation as a representative of the Marketing Association of South Africa. He has also received one-year professional mentorship as an Insolvency Practitioner through a programme facilitated by SARIPA.
